Garlic is the one herb that always seems to add that extra kick to food. And it’s no surprise that the benefits of garlic are never-ending. I mean, every time I am either stewing something or marinating my meats, it is always my go-to spice. So with my big love for garlic, I thought I would re-post this on Velesco and share some of the benefits of garlic with you.
Garlic is used in many cuisines around the world to add some flavor to food or whatever is cooking on the stove. In addition, it has been used for its medicinal values for years. I would say our ancestors enjoyed the many benefits of garlic, but I would not go that back.

My mom, for instance, eats and drinks a concoction of the plant to lower her blood pressure amongst other things. But back to the ancestors, they used it as a bug repellent, against some plague and the Egyptians even buried it with their dead! But enough with that, let’s dig deeper into this wonder of a herb.
What is Garlic?
It is a herb from the onion family that is grown for its amazing cooking properties. Also the health benefits of garlic come in different forms due to its sulphur compound known as Allicin. And if you want to use it for whatever purpose, make sure you mince, chop or mash it then wait for at least 10 minutes. This activates that important compound – Allicin – which I mentioned above.

Amazing Benefits of Garlic
The herb might not be your first choice when it comes to its after-breath, but trust me it has been used for thousands of years. Some of the benefits of garlic range from its ability to treat acne, restore radiance to the skin and give a thick and lustrous mane.
There are quite a lot of reasons you should start appreciating garlic more. Below I have listed a few of the benefits that should convince you.
- The oniony plant helps in lowering blood pressure.
- Reduces the risk of blood clots.
- It boosts your immune system and aids in keeping colds at bay.
- It is great for treating psoriasis.
- Can help stop hair loss.
- Diets filled with garlic help in weight loss
- Helps in healing cold sores by reducing the swelling
- Banishes athletes foot.
- Detoxes the liver by releasing toxins.
On the other hand, garlic can cause blisters if exposed to the skin for too long, or if you are allergic to it. Make sure you do a patch test before commencing on discovering the amazing benefits of garlic.
Finally, remember to see a medical practitioner for any symptoms you might have. Self medication for serious symptoms is not advisable.
